No? There wasn't a memo?
I didn't think so.
Well apparently some people thought there was. And to tell you the truth, I'm sick of it. Now if this is offending you, please. Stop reading. And then you won't have to worry about being mad at me. Because pretty much, this is a rant for me to get my feelings out on paper... er... I mean a computer screen. Anyways, I don't remember seeing this... MUCH of some of the girls and guys last time I saw them in school. (and that's not a good thing). With some people they seemed to have changed over the summer. As in completely.
Now, I'm not saying we all have to go around wearing baggy jeans and sweatshirts all of our lives, with our t- shirts tucked into our pants belted up around our chins. I'm just saying: have a little self esteem here people. I know we all usually wear fashionable clothes and sometimes stuff happens, or that shirt you girls thought was so cute, is just a teeny tiny bit lower than you noticed ( happened to me before!) . Or the guys have their pants lower and baggier because, hey. They don't want to look like nerds. All understandable.
I'm talking about the thinking " hey. lets go out and buy the LOWEST shirt I possibly find. so everybody can see my chest."
HEY! wake up call: I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT. You know what I think when I see that? I think that you have no self esteem so the only way you can get attention is to flaunt yourself at people. Nope. Not cool girls. Not cool at all. I'm not positive ( back me up here boys) but the only attention you can get for yourself is bad attention from unpleasant boys. All the boys around me that I am friends with complain about it. They don't want to see that. I'm pretty sure they'd rather you put something else on, and just be their friend rather than flaunt yourself at them. So stop. Like yourself for who YOU are. Not what you try to look like.
Now I haven't seen this as much as I have the girl thing, but I DON'T want to see guys butts. Sorry! Baggy Jeans: Fine. Lower jeans: Fine. SO baggy and SO low, I have to see a line that I shouldn't ever have to see? Not so fine. In fact, nasty. You're not a plumber. So put it away.
Get a belt. Or just pull up your pants.
Once again. I'm not saying the girls need to wear this:
Gorgeous as it is... and the boys don't have to look like this every school day:
See how unhappy they all are? I don't want you guys to look like this. I just don't want to see your body parts on parade.
Lets keep that at home.
Not at school.
Or at least when I don't have to see it.
I agree wholeheartedly! It's kind of disgusting the kind of stuff that you see in the school halls, not to mention hear!
ReplyDeleteTwo thumbs up, Whitney! Thanks for being willing to stand up for modesty (and, honestly, what should be general decency).
ReplyDeletederek: I know! I'll write another blog about annoying things I hear another day... don't worry. haha
ReplyDeleteAnna: thank you! :) I appreciate your support on the matter too.
Whitney, I agree wholeheartedly. It reminds me of the comment back in TOK last year where Blake was trying to explain that boys don't like it when girls are immodest, and the David/Dimitri/Kevin triumvirate jumped all over him for it. The kind of girls that purposefully wear that kind of clothes are asking for the kind of boy that sees girls as sex objects, not as human beings.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone else noticed.
Yes. And girls don't need to be dehumanized by clothing. Because there are boys like that out there, and just because some girl doesn't realize how great she is, she has to wear clothing that disrespects herself. And I have to see it. Which I don't want to.
ReplyDeleteAMEN SISTA!!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. It's what inside that counts...not what's outside. And generally people don't want to see what's outside anyway.
I totally agree with you whit! There are some really cute clothes out there that dont show everything!!
ReplyDeletewow whit! couldn't have said it better myself. It is totally and completely true. Both guys and girls need to respect themselves more. Wearing immodest clothing really is an attention getter.. attracting all the wrong attention. I'm glad to see that someone finally took the initiative to take a stand for modesty, especially in a world where modesty is not the "in" thing to do.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Bugs the crap out of me!!! phooey!
ReplyDeleteThanks for agreeing! :)
